Finding Your NAICS Code

To properly categorize your business or organization, we need to know the six-digit NAICS code applicable to your primary business activity. This allows us to better profile employers and present more meaningful information to readers interested in specific industry groups.

The North American Industry Classification System was adopted by the governments of Canada, USA and Mexico to replace the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System. The new system provides comparability across the three economies, as well as flexibility for new types of economic activity brought about by recent technological advances.

You can quickly look up your organization's six-digit NAICS code online. There are several free look-up sites, including:

For example, if you operate a "law firm", your six-digit NAICS code is "541110". Or, if you are a "directory publisher" then your NAICS code is "511140", and so on.

Be sure to find the full six-digit NAICS code that applies to your principal business activity. If you have significant difficulties determining your primary NAICS code, call our Editorial Department at 416-964-6069 x1464.

For those of you with an unusual interest in NAICS coding, we use the NAICS-2002 classification system, which is the most common in circulation. (All of the above search sites return NAICS-2002 results.)

Don't worry about entering an incorrect NAICS code for your business on our application -- we review all your information before publication.

Thank you for your assistance.
